Not sure if it's worth going through the drab, empty, boring, and repetitive areas to see it all these days. But the characters and the narrative structure are really good (at least until the very disappointing end). And combat just went off the rails only to be further dumbed down for inquisition. Not to mention that the decision to lock you into a particular role/character was probably a misstep for the series as well. That didn't come to pass, unfortunately, but it was still one of the best CRPG's at the time, but sadly also probably the end of that Bioware tradition that I loved.ĭA:2 suffered a lot from budget and time limitations. My expectation was BG2 but with a AAA budget and graphics. I was in love with Bioware and followed the development of this game closely ever since the first screenshots were shown (the game was still using the Neverwinter Nights engine back then). And the end result is a significant improvement for the game experience. You don't have time for that, or you don't have a gaming PC? Because the "time for that" is 10 minutes over at the nexus. Question, if I end up seeing this game through (which I most likely will), how are we feeling on the second game? I’ve heard mixed feelings on it but with how much I’m enjoying this one, I’m really into the idea of playing all 3 games and carrying the world states over since I only ever played Inquisition fresh with no context. I’m finding it to be the middle ground between older style cRPGs and something like the Mass Effect games and it’s working for me.

There’s a lot of variety and the skills reflect the cRPG heritage of the game. I’m also really enjoying all of the spells I have access to as a mage. It’s really attention grabbing for me in a way that some long story based RPGs aren’t. And the thing that is impressing me most is how into the characters and story I am. I’m playing as a male Elf mage who is more on the evil side, which is something I rarely do. However, all of that is irrelevant when the game is this good. Yes the graphics are dated and yes it shows it’s age. Going back to Origins has been fantastic. I love the Mass Effect series and when Inquisition came out I put around 120 hours into it even though it was the only DA game I played. That being said, I’ve heard that the console versions are rough but I’m personally really impressed with this game. I know it’s probably way better on PC and mods and whatever but I ain’t got time for that. Had a random urge to play an RPG and I loaded up DA:O on Series X via back compat.
